COMMON REMEDIES OF THE COMMON COLD
Camphor A person has been chilled cannot get warm now you want to cure her/him in the cold stage and you want to prevent the case going into 'catarrhal symptoms' here a a dose or two of Camphor Q will make her/him warm and prevet unnecessary suffering.
Aconite EARLY STAGES on Pneumonia, Bronchitis, croup. RESTLESS, ANXIOUS, FRIGHTENED < AT NIGHT Sudden onset of symptoms Caused by exposure to cold (cold dry winds) Nose : coryza, nose is dry there is headache, there is headache roaring in ears, FEVER , THIRST, sleeplessness, Anxiety.Breath HOT. Larynx (laryngitis): high fever suffocative spasms (spasms of glottis) sensitive to touch to inspired air as if denuded. Croup: you find a child who was exposed to dry cold wind few hours ago now in great agony, tossing about, there is short , dry (hoarse, dry, loud, spasmodic, croupy, suffocating) cough, very little wheezing, cough wakes her/him from sleep, there is great anxiety, Aconite cuts short the illness. Sputum absent - scanty bloody - blood sreaked bright red blood.

Coryza: Eyes ( profuse bland discharge){Euphrasia has profuse acrid lachrymation},
nose ( profuse acrid discharge - corrodes lip and nose){Euphrasia has profuse bland discharge from nose} headache is there, sneezing (frequent) Hot Thirsty < evenings indoors warm room > open air. Laryngitis: violent catarrhal tickling in larynx cough seems to split and tear the larynx (cough from inhaling cold air) grasps larynx.
BELLADONNA is RED,HOT, DRY. Catarrh has been suppressed and the patiet suffers from maddening headache. Throat - raw sore looks shining , very red. Larynx: acute catarrhal laryngitis hoarseness painful dryness as if inflammed and swollen snoring breathing and danger of suffocation. Cough - with red injected throat dry tearing which scrapes throat.
BRYONIA - Irritable; thirsty (for long drinks); wants to lie still / be let alone; dryness of mucous membranes(Bell.). Lips, parched / dry. < cold, dry weather. First day Coryza (often) begins in nose sneezing running nose lachrymation aching eyes, nose and head.
Then the trouble goes down to posterior nares throat larynx with hoarseness and a bronchitis comes on may end in pleurisy and pneumona.
In BRYONIA trouble travels down from the beginning of the respiratoty tract but a reverse condition we find in LYCOPODOUM where the trouble travels up. COUGH (BRYONIA) - shaking the whole body dry hard racking spasmodic < at night < after eating / drinking < on entering a warm room < on taking a deep inspiration With stiches in chest and pleura (< breathing / coughing) headache (as if head would fly to pieces) expectoration scanty.
EUPHRASIA Coryza: Eyes: Euphrasia has profuse acrid lachrymation [Allium Cepa - profuse bland discharge]
nose: Euphrasia has profuse bland discharge from nose (Allium cepa-profuse acrid discharge - corrodes lip and nose) Severe fluent coryza - apt to extend down to larynx with hard cough coryza < at night lying down cough < by day > lying down.
HEPAR Causation - cold dry weather (acon, nux) catarrh (nose/ears/throat/larynx/chest)
Cold - in nose with much discharge with sneezing everytime s/he goes into a cold wind. running from the nose first watery then thick/yellow/offensive. everytime s/he goes into a cold wind, gets hoarse coughs < inspiring cold air < putting hand/foot out of bed Sweating all night without relief(Merc).
Hypersensitive to - touch/pain/draughts/cold air. wants to hit anybody who makes a draught in room. > MOIST WET WEATHER (Gels is < moist wet weather) NUX - Is oversensitive; irritable; touchy; sensitive to least draught (Hepar).
Colds: Causation - DRY COLD weather (acon) [reverse of DULC] Acon is anxious Nux irritable Nose: initial stage - dry stuffed (at night/in open air), sneezing fluent (in warm room/by day) troat- rough as if scraped sore/raw Coldness of whole body, not > by warmth of stove / by any amount of covering. chills (back/limbs/whole body) not > by warmth. chill as soon as he moves the bed clothes. chill alternating with heat. Heat with internal chilliness. shivering from drinking slightest contact with open air slightest motion.
DULCAMARA- Stiff neck; sore throat; back and limbs painful.
Colds: Causation - COLD WET WEATHER (Rhus) , snow. From gettig wet / chilled when heated. < sudden changes from hot to cold. coryza - Bose stuffs up when tgere is cold rain dry; < in open air (profuse discharge eyes/nose) more fluent in house/warmth less fluent in cold air/cold room (Nux) starts sneezing in a cold room throat - sore neck - stiff eyes - become red and sore with every cold.
MERC. SOL. Feels bad in warm room yet cannot bear the cold. Creeping chilliness ( in the beginning of a cold) nose - red , swollen, shining (frontal sinuses - cattarrhal inflammation) sneezing (much) discharge - fluent, corrosive, offensive matter from the nose / greenish fetid pus voice - hoarse cough - dry,rough, tickling, taste - sweet / salty / metallic / putrid. sweats - profuse , offensive, < sweating (reverse of Nat.Sul.) Tongue- swollen flabby (tooth notched) offensive - breath/salivation.

SULPHUR Sul patient likes fat gets hungry about 11 A.M. feels the heat Coryza, subject to sneezing, constant nose, stoppage of fluent, like water trickling from nose discharges (nasal): acrid burning cannot Bath: cannot take a bath overheated : cannot become overheated cannot get into a cold place cannot overexert without getting this cold in the nose CALCAREA Catarrhs: lingering discharge: thick yellow Nose- great crusts from Breathes - part of night through nose then it clogs up and has to breath through mouth Chilly - perspires much Sensitive to cold - so Sensitive to cold he finds it difficult to dress to protect himself. TUBERCULINUM Family history of T.B. cold - always catching cold always tired < in warm room. Drugs produce peculiar symptoms. Where these agree in drug and patient, the ailment is cancelled, and health results. This is most strikingly seen in acute and uncomplicated sickness. When you give to a patient a remedy that can produce his symptoms, it must be given in small dose to which his sensitive condition will respond without undue aggravation and suffering. |
