ABSCESS Medicines
MYRISTICA SEBIFERA
ANTHRACINUM BELLADONNA. The parts are bright red, the swelling appears suddenly and is rapid, the pus developing with lightning-like rapidity. There is a throbbing sensation which is intense and sudden and the pains are apt to cease as suddenly as they appeared. Acute abscesses.
HEPAR SULPHUR
CALCAREA SULPHURICA (Sulphate of Calcium or Gypsum.) Is useful in cases of abscess where the suppuration is prolonged. The presence of pus with a vent is an indication. It comes in after Silicea.
SILICEA SILICEA AND CALCAREA SULPHURICA Silicea promotes suppuration and brings the suppurative process to maturity. Calcarea sulphurica checks suppuration and promotes healthy granulation. It lacks also the fetor of Silica. MERCURIUS It is indicated after Belladonna, when pus has formed and needs to be evacuated. It favors the rapid formation of pus. Glandular abscesses especially call for Mercurius. There is intense shining redness, with throbbing and stinging pains. MERCURIUS AND SILICEA They are inimical and do not follow each other well, hence must be carefully distinguished. LACHESIS In low conditions of abscess when the pus is thin, dark, and offensive in character. The inflamed parts are purplish in color. Abscesses from poisonous matter introduced into the system. Besides Lachesis, remedies that may be indicated in low conditions of abscess by general symptoms are Arsenic, Rhus toxicodendron and Carbo vegetabilis. SULPHUR In chronic cases when the discharge is profuse, with emaciation and hectic fever. Abscesses in scrofulous persons where there is a marked psoric taint Sulphur should be given. CALCAREA CARBONICA AND CALCAREA IODATA Remedies especially useful in Scrofulous abscesses are Calcarea carbonica, and if about the glands of the neck Calcarea iodata.
