Leucoderma (Kilas), or Vitiligo


Those cases in which the pigmentation of the skin is at fault as the sole existing disease may be divided into two classes--those in which the pigment is deficient in quantity (Leucoderma, or Vitiligo), and those in which it is in excess (Melanoderma). Leucoderma is caused by a deficiency or a loss of melanin pigmentation in the epidermis, also known as hypomelanosis. Hypopigmentation can be localized or generalized, and may result from genetic defects, trauma, inflammation, or infections. Vitiligo, or leucoderma, is an affection characterized by circumscribed patches of skin, from which the pigment has disappeared to a greater or less extent. Any area of skin that is white from congenital (albinism; albino) or acquired absence or loss of melanin pigmentation. Also called vitiligo.
The course of vitiligo varies. The causes of vitiligo are unknown. Vitiligo cases are on increase due to the excessive use of Synthetics in the form of Food, Medicines and clothes. Pollution of all kinds but especially of water is responsible for prevalence of Leucoderma ( Vitiligo) in some localities. Hindu ladies using 'Bindi' are seen affected, the trouble starting at the place of contact with 'bindi' and increasing in area with time. Treated early this type of leucoderma (vitiligo) responds well.

Vitiligo can occur at any age and in anybody. It is not an infection, which can be communicated to anybody else. It is neither due to not eating good food or drinking milk after eating fish. It does not affect the health of the patient. It is a cosmetic problem, which can produce psychological problems. Therefore an effort is made to treat it. The white patch is normal in all respects except that it has no colour. It may spread rapidly in some while very slowly in others. Once it stops spreading, it may remain inactive indefinitely or activate again after a variable period of time.
Some time excessive mental stress or chronic gastric disorders may be the precipitating cause. There is no direct link of any hereditary issue, yet kids of the parents, who have Vitiligo, might have more chances of occurrence.
Homeopathy has solved this problem in some cases. Again, a proper history taking and follow-up is the key.

ANTIMONIUM TARTARICUM
Leucoderma. Goose-like skin , marked appearance of roughness. Variola.
Crusta lactea; vitiligo; prurigo; scabies; obstinate pustules; pustular impetigo; desquamation of cuticle.

ARSENICUM SULPHURATUM FLAVUM (ARSENIC TRISULPH.)
This remedy is of service in cases of leucoderma and squamous syphilides, the indication being chafing about the genitals.
Leucoderma and squamous syphilides. Psoriasis. Vitiligo (Leucoderma).

CALCAREA CARBONICA (CALCAREA CARBONICA - OSTREARUM)
Is of service in leucoderma and lentigo. Vitiligo (Leucoderma).

GRAPHITES
Vitiligo (Leucoderma).
Brown and yellow patches on the skin.

HYDROCOTYLE ASIATICA (HYDROCOTYLE)
Dry and stained (like ringworm); itching, dry eczema; cracked skin; allergy; leprosy; psoriasis; dandruff; syphilitic eruptions; leucoderma etc. Vitiligo (Leucoderma).

MORPHINUM
When the pigmentless spots in vitiligo resemble the whitish spots of morphoea, it is only to be remembered that the former is due simply to the absence of pigment, while the latter is caused by an abnormal state of structure, and of vascular supply.
